FRUIT AND VEGETABLES.
Arrivals for the week included 556 cases, ex Warrimoo, from Sydney, comprising oranges, lemons, loquats, and apricots, the latter arriving in very poor condition ; 87 packages, principally tomatoes, ex Manuka, from Auckland; and 260 cases oranges and lemons, ex Moeraki. from Melbourne. Following are the prices between fruit brokers and retailers: — Oranges. — Prices have receded owing to the arrival of American oranges, which are selling at from 17s to 18s; Sydney, second crop, from 5s to 7s ; Rarotongan (very few landed, and these in poor condition), 5s 6d to 12s 9d. Lemons. — Market quite bare. Californians, 27s fed per double case; Sydney, 10s to 15s per packet. Apples. — Market barely supplied. Hobart .stunners, 14s to 16s; American, 14s to 16s. Bananas, — Market barely supplied, but a shipment of upwards of 1000 cases of Tongam i s expected to arrive on Thursday next. Pines. — In over supply, 3s to 7s 6d per caee. Cherries: Victorian, in crates, up to 31s 6d ; boxes up to 15s ; a quantity in poor condition realised from 5s to, 15s per crate; Alexandra and Roxburgh, 6£d to le per Ib. Grape 3. — Local hothouse. 3s per Ib. Strawberries. — Barely sufficient forward to meet requirements. Choice Waimate Marguerites, 6£d to 3d ; Laxton's and other choice varieties, 3d. to Is ; Roxburgh, 6£d to 9d per Ib ; extra choice up to Is Id. Gooseberries. — Large green sorts in good demand; 2d to 3d per Ib; small and inferior, Id to lid per Ib. Tomatoes: C&ristchurch hothouse, 9id to Is; local Is 3d; Auckland, 7£d to 9id. Vegetables: Lettuce, more plentiful, from 6d to Is 6d per dozen ; cauliflowers, 5s to 6s 9d per sack, small 3s to 4s; cabbages, 2s 6d to 4s 6d per sack ; rhubarb, Id per Ib; green peas, lnd to 2£d; asparagus (nearly finished). 4s to 5s per dozen ; cucum^' bers (in short supply) — local hothouse, 5e 6d to 8s per dozen ; Auckland, 6s to 9s per box. Honey. — Choice, 4d per Ib; 101b tins, 3« to 3s 6d ; choice sections, od to 7d. Beeswax, 1« 3d to Is 4d. Nut«. —Brazil, 8d; walnuts, 4d to 5Jd; Ba>rcelonae, s£d to 6d; Japanese peanuts, 2id to '3d ; Fijian peanuts, 2d to 24d. Preserved Fruits, etc. — Preserved ginger, 7£d ; dates— bulk 2£d, packets 3s 6d ; figs, twigs 3W to 3id, choice layers 4£d, glove boxes 3s 3d to 3s 9d per dozen, bulk 2Jd to 3d ; prunes, 4d. Clover hay, £3 for choice. Feed barley. 3s to 3s 3d. Maize, 4s 6d to ss.
