! THE KARAMEA'S CONTINGENT. • i WELLINGTON, October' 15. ! More immigrants are coining out byI the steamer Karamea, due about October" ' 25. The Karamea,' s first port of call [is Port Chalmers. There are 180 assisted* j passengers on board, and thecer include i 26 chttdren. Included -in -this anmber | are 132 nominated passengers coming to j friends in New Zealand, and eight of them ; are wive^s rejoining their husbands. The other assisted passengers who are required to declare their capital number 48 souls*, who bring a total capital of £720. The sums possessed by individuals range from £352 down to £2. The latter is the. minimum required for domestic servants, receiving assisted passages. The occupations include dairy and general farmers, farm labourers, a weaver, a tailor, and 10 domestic servants, not one of whom is booked for Wellington. Four of them are booked to Auckland, four to Lyttelton, and one each to Port Chalmers and Westport. The Kamamea, which is making, a special trip, will no doubt bring out unassisted immigrants, who usually far outnumber those who obtain reduced passages. ishe will be followed. by the Paparoa, dtre about October 24, and the Cormthic, which is expected to bring out between 600 and 700 people early in Novemmer. The Labour Department has received by- this mail paH'ciilars of a large namber of immigrants coming by various steamers direct and via Australia. Recommendations for employment accompany the, notification of intending immigrants, and these are sent together with testimonials ' from the High Commissioner's office, front shipping companies and others interested in sending immigrants to New Zealand.
