! SLIGHTED IN LOVE. . CHRISTCHURCH, October 16. At the Magistrate's Court to-day a young man named James MiLnes was charged with havin.sf attempted to take his own life by shooting, at Dallington, on October 15. Accused came from Yorkshire, and had been in the Dominion about a year- He had attended a wedding on Tuesday, and considered he had been slighted by a girl with whom he was in love. This co depressed him that ha became melancholy. * A letter, addressed to . the girl, was Jound on accused, telling her of his infatuation, and declaring tti^t she had broken his heart, and that he intended to kill himself. The Magistrate severely admonished tha accused for his foolish act, but considered that as accused had only inflicted a slight ..wound on his arm he had not really intended to take his life, but rather intended to frighten the girl, and create a stir. The accused was a young man, only 21, years of age, and he would not fend him to gaol, but instead remand hjm. for a week to the Samaritan Home, and' if at the end of that time the court, received favourable reports, the accused .would be discharged.
