SYDNEY FESTIVITIES ENDED. CHILDREN'S DEMONSTRATION.
SYDNEY, August 26.
The last day of the fleet festivities was Allotted to a children's demonstration on the Cricket Ground, which proved far too small to accommodate- the immense gathering of spectators, which included many Americans.
Eight thousand scholars from the public schools, dressed in red, white, and blue, ■went through various exercises and tableau vivante. . " During the ceremony 5000 white pigeons ■were liberated. . A" -rifle match between the American fleet and the" Rifle Association. Council, teams of 20 men aside, at 200, 500, and 600 yards ranges, was wbn "by the Americans with a score of 1884 points, the Australians putting on 1755. "> ;' The 1 fleet will leave* -at -0 o'clock tomorrow morning. H.M.TS. "Powerful and Challenger sailed for Melbourne' to-day to be ready to welcome the fleet there.
