OLD-AGE PENSIONS.

LONDON, August 27,

Mr Lloyd-George has authorised the statement that he has not arrived at any definite conclusion regarding the only object of his visit to Germany — namely, to see whether tlie contributory system could, as far as invalidity by sickness was concerned, be grafted on to the British old-age- pension scheme. He is tremendously impressed with the perfection of the system whereby Germany raises £34,000,000 for_ meeting invalidity, olda t gej and sickness pensions, while the" State's contribution merely covers working expenses. When clerks and widows are shortly included- the total will be £53,000,000 per annum.
