CANTERBURY LABOUR MARKET.
CHRLSTCHURCH, Augu&t 19. The Labour Department reports having despatched 24 men yesterday to the railway works at Broken River. Eight more are to follow t-o-momnv. The labour market is again normal, Avifch every prospect of a strong demand for farm and unskilled labour during the next few weeks if the weather holds fair. Reports from. I Broken River indicate that work is pro- j gressing satisfactorily. There are now nearly 300 men employed on the railway works, and thei-e appeals to be a feeling of general contentment among the men j with the conditions of labour under the j co-operatiA*e system. The fine Aveather of , the past few weeks hai done much to j amelioiate the discomforts inseparable from a new camp.
