SOCIAL AT CROMWELL.
r A very enjoyable social promoted by the ladies in aid of the Cromwell Athenaeuln •Vjas held on Tbureday evening. The V.ks held on Thursday, 13th inst. The .Cromwell Brass Band rendered two selections in a splendid manner. A humorous aong by Mr T. M'Nulty met with a ypciferous encore,' and songs by the Rev. Sj^r Reader and Messrs Ward and Bradley well rendered Miss Ward gave two recitations splendidly, end Mrs Ebo Jolly cave every jsatisf action- as accompanist.. The • ge,m of the 'evening was a farce entitled ?'Mr and Mrs White," the dramatis persons being: — Major Pepper, Mr R. W. Stevens; Francis Brown,. Mr George Springer ; Peter White, Mr O'Driscoll ; Mrs White, Mrs J. Richards; Widow iWhite, Mrs O'Driseoll; Kitty Clover, Miss 'K. Hotop. These ladies and -gentlemen ;w«re all , letter perfect, and filled their .respective roles splendidly. The farce, iwbjch provoked roars of laughter, went ll^ifh a vim highly orediiable to the performers. Mr R. Stevens's abilities are swell known ,here, but Mr O'Driscoll's acting took everyone by surprise, as this gentleman posse6ees histrionic abilities of 5&0 mean order. Mrs J. Richards and Mr« .Q'DriEColl acted their respective parts to ifchft life, and as a pretty nursemaid Mis 6 SK. jjotop filled the role to perfection. &mple refreshments, provided by the ladies, were handed round.
