CRESS IN WELLINGTON.

An exceedingly enjoyable match was played at the rooms of the Wellington Chess Club on the evening of the 19th inst. (says the Post), between the club's representatives and a combined team from the t'hfrae suburban clubs—viz.. South Wellington, Hutt, and Petone. The Wellington Club was represented by an exceptionally strong team, and the suburbanites did very well to score onethird of the games. The promoters of the match hr.d unfavourable^ weather to contend with. a<nd the excellent attendance was therefore all the nicie gratifying. Toasts were exchanged &k. the conclusion of the cojiiest, and three cheers were al?.o accorded fo the chib's president; Mr . E.. W. Petherick, who kindly provided refreshments during the evening. Messrs W. E. Mason a.nd J. A. Gpnnell captained the tea.ms. The scores of the match are as follow (the initials of the clubs being given in parentheses): —
