INTER-CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. ' The fourth annual inter-club Cross- ' Country Championship promoted by the Otago Centre New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held at Winga- ■ tui on Saturday. -The weather was beaufcifuLly fine, and the; day was an -ideal one for running, there being little or no wind. Twelve teams started, representing the Dunedin (two teams), Civil Service, Oayereham, Anglican, V.M.C.A., Southern Bible Class. Tokomairiro. The course was very similar to that "of - formers years, the runners doing about three furlongs on the course,- then along the foot of the hills to Silverstream, crossing " by the gums at the end of Mr Gow's property, turning to the left over the Otago Central railway line, back through .Janefield and through ploughed and grass paddocks, finishing on the course at the grand stand. After explaining the course to th« runners, Mr J. T. Hamann started them on their five mile journey, and the field was twell spread out before the course was left.
M^Knlgfht, Mace, Frew, and Clatighton "were very prominent. Reaching the Silverstreaan, M*Knight had established a good lead, and Frew, otephens, and Thompson -followed, with the fleld well strung out. A% -Janefield, on i&e -home, turn, M'Knight had further increased his lead, and raced on to -the course an' easy "winner, followed byZFrew, 3Ghompsoiv,lJ. West, A. Tambull, and J. Beateon. The ■winner's time was 33mm 51eeo. The -winner was accorded an ovation, and Hie* "victory of the' Dunedin Harriers was 'weJl received.
