ENGLISH AMATEUR ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS.

NEW ZEALANDERS COMPETING. THREE RECORDS BROKEN. Quite the most important meeting ever decided by the English Amateur Athletic Association was that held at the Stadium, London, on Saturday, July 4. The year 1800 was a great one for athletics, especially for the championships, in which some of the best men from the States — including 1 A. F. Duffy, the even-time, sprinter; Maxey Long, the quarter-mile record breaker ; that wonderful jumper and hurdler, A. C Kraenzlein ; the high jumper, I. K. Baxter, with his leap of 6ft lin; B. Johnson, the nole jumper^ R. Sheldon, the weight-putter • and the record hammer thrower, J. J. Flanagan — almost cleared the board. No display anything up to the standard of what was seen on that memorable occasion had been previously given in England. The entries mimbes-eel 254, and there wero competitors from every corner of the Empire, including Rowland, Kerr, Murray, and Guy Hawkins from New Zealand.
