WELLINGTON v. WANGANUI.

WANGANUI, August 23. With the exception of the attendance at the British match, the largest crowd of the season witnessed the representative match between Wanganui and Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Wellington scored an easy win, outclassing their opponents in every department of the game. Though the Wanganui forwards played well they were almost invariably beaten for the ball, and once the Wellington backs got properly to work they outmanoeuvred the local men. Wanganui were unfortunate in losing Seeling early in the game, just after he had scored and converted a try. Southcombe took his place. Very soon after the kick-off Wilson scored for Wellington as the result of brilliant passing, but the kick at goal failed. Almost immediately afterwards Ryan, scored in an easy manner, and added the major points. The visitors continued their advantage, and a few minutes later another try was scored behind the posts, but the kick was resultless. Wanganui then redoubled their -efforts, and managed to take play to the Wellington twenty-five, where Seeiing got the ball and scored alongside the posts. The same player converted, but had to retrre immediately afterwards. From the kick-off Wellington rushed play to the Wanganui line, where Hardham scored, Mitchinson kicking a goal. Early in the second suell Southcombe kicked a penalty goal for Wanganui. "Wellington, then became aggressive, and from a forward rush Harrlham^scored, the kick being resultless Play was in neutral -territory for some minutes and then Wanganui forced it into their opponents' twenty-five, where Abbott secured the ball and dashed over in a-good position, Sbuthcombe converting. From this out Wanganui were kept on the defensive. Rush kicked a goal from a mark, and Hardham scored a try, the game ending: Wellington 25 points. Wanganui 13 points. j SOUTHLAND v. MANAWATU. j PALMER STON N., August 23. Southland met Manawat.u here on Saturday, the playing conditions being perfect. The exhibition was very poor in the first 6pell.
