WANGANUI DEFEAT SOUTHLAND.
WANGANTTI, August 19. The football match between Wanganui ! and Southland was played this afternoon in fairly fine weather, and before a poor attendance of spectators. An interesting same resulted in a win for Wanganui by 10 points to 6. The teams were fairly evenly matched, the Southland forwards being, if anything, better than those on the Wanganui side, especially in loose dribbling rushes. The backs were an even lot, though the visitors were superior in line-kicking. In the first spell Southland. T>laving with the wind and sun at. their backs, had the best of the game. M"'Neece kicked two fine penalty goals. In the second 6pell the game was fairly even for a time, but then Wanganui woke up, and after strenuous play MeuK and Mitchell
eaoh scored a try in a good position,. both being converted. The game 'endfjd : Wanganui 10 points. Southland 6 points. Mr Griffiths (New Plymouth) refereed efficiently.
