AUSTRALIA'S IMPORTANCE. SYDNEY, August 22. The Telegraph, dealing with the banquet speeches, says that the coming of the fleet brings new aspects into the Australian outlook, and gives Australia a new interest and inspiration. Americans have appreciated the importance of the Pacific pi'oblems, in which Australia for years has been an important factor, but an unrecognised one. The people of AustraMa are clearly aware of this, and know well enough that the fleet would not have been authorised to visit them had not their country been recognised in America as one of great potential importance in these seas. The visit certainly will be instrumental in awakening the Commonwealth to a proper realisation of its place in the
world and the responsibilities that attach to it. Army men marched through Sydney yesterday, but they aare only the advance guard of that great force which is essential if their dominion in the Pacific is to be safeguarded.
