SALE OF THE IMPORTED ENTIRE COLT BARON EVEREST.
Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. (Ltd.) report having sold privately on account* of Mr Donald M'Farlane, Claremont, Timaru, his imported Clydesdale entire coU Baron Everest. This sale they carried through at the highest figure they have obtained for a horse during the whole of their 47 years' experience m the stud stock business. The purchaser is Mr James Wyllie, of Gadesbunden Farm, ' Sefton, North Canterbury and not only he, but breeders of Clydesdale horses generally m that province, are to be congratulated on the acquisition of a horse that is not merely, m the opinion of competent judges, • the best three-yeax-cld Clydesdale m Australasia tonday, but is of such quality as to make it an open question whether his equal can be found even m Scotland. When he ( was shipped out he was regarded as being among absolutely the beat two-year-old Clydesdales ever bred m that country. He ( was shown only once m Scotland, and that as a two-year-old, when he was m lean con- ■ dition. Even under this disadvantage, he ob- j tamed second honours, coming next to the ; far-famed Diploma, a subsequent champion j at the Royal Show. At the time judges m I Scotland predicted that when he was got up m condition for show \purposes he wordd be exceedingly difficult to beat. Baron Everest belongs to the most famoiis breeding family j of Clydesdales ih the Old Country to-day, | his sire being Sir Everest (10917). by Sir , Everard, the sire of Messrs A. and W. Mont- I gomery's famous stud horse Baron's Pride i J9122), a horse whose Tecord at the stud stands without parallel m the annals of Clydesda'e breeding. In proof of this it may j be mentioned that his progeny have widely distinguished themselves. Baron Everest is a fine specimen of the Clydesdale breed, bright bay m colour, upstanding, massive, ; wonderfully deep through the heart, grandly ribbed up, and showing rare quality of bone, and splendid feet and pasterns. As his breeding is of supreme importance to Clydesdale studmiaisters, we append his pedigree m extenso: Baron Everest (13885), bay, white patch on face, four white legs, foaled sth April, 1905. Bred by Messrs D. and J. S. Ainsworth, Floeh Farm, Cumberland. Sire Sir Everest (10917); dam Trim of the Flosh Farm (17272), by Londonderry (7934) ; granddam Bess of the Flosh Farm (18793), by Eastfield Gallant (7680). Sir Everest, by Sir Everard (5353, Volume IX). out of Rose Lawrence (13522, Volume XXI), by Prince Lawrence (Volume VII, page 261). Sir Everard, by Top Gallant, out of a dfc_k brown mare, grey hairs m coat, bred by Mrs Lamont, by London Prince (428, Volume I).
