'Satubjxat, January 11. (Before MJr,H. Y. "Widdowson, SM.) A Bicyicle Thief.— -James M.'l/aren was charged ' with stealing, on December 23, at Duin«din, ' a' bicycle valued at JBB, the 'property of Frank iTbley; also, with stealing, on Decemt)er 24,*, at Dunedm, another bicycle valued at JSH). the property of Frederick Anderson. — Detective said accused had 18 previous h convictions, against him, and Ee desired to h^ve j accussd indicted and sent to the Supreme- j ! Court for - trial, where an application would ] j be made to have him dealt with under the Habitual Criminals Act.— Frank Foley said that on Dece.«nber 23 he left his bicycle outsicU a teaxeho-use in Dowling street, and 3(K ininutea later it' had disappeared. He- identi* fied the machine (produced) as his property. — A second-hand dealer,- Albert Hitman, deposed to purchasing the bicycle from accused for £1'. — Accused said he was going to Timaru and that his name was Jas. Willowson.— Detective Miieod deposed to arresting accused who said he had been drinking heavily, and did "not remember anything about | tha theft.— Accused, who pleaded "Guilty," wis i committed- to the Supreme Court for sentence. On the second charge the evidence was very much tha same, the bicycle have been stolen from the back passage of the Standard ' Insurance office and sold to Hyman Rufus , Isaacs, secpnd-hand dealer for 22s 6d. On this occasion also, accused gave the name ! of James "Willowson, and said the bicycle ' wag his <>wn. — Accused, who pleaded " Guilty," was committed to the Supreme Court for "sentence. „
