ALEXANDRA v. NORTH-EAST VALLEY.

A match was played on Saturday between teams from the Alexandra and North-East Talley Tennis Clubs. Some very good games were witnessed, and an enjoyable afienucon was spent, victory resting with the local club by 18 games. The visitors were entertained by the Valley Club. Scores: — "Gentlemen's Singles.— M'Geever beat J. A. O'Kane, 9—5; Gray beat Hewitt, 9—4; Hopcraft b&at Bartholmew, 9—5; Cumin g beat Cuthbertsoa, 9—6; Hanson beat TayloT, 9—6. The following are the results: — LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. • Semi-final. Miss Nunneley beat Miss A. Ward, 6—l, 6—3. Final. Miss' Nunneley beat Miss Powdrell, 6—l,6 — 1, 6—4. LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. Misses Nunneley (Wellington) and Kellett Baker (Sydney) beat Misses Powdrell (Taranaki) and Gray (Auckland), 6—l, 6—B, 6—4. MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Final. Parker (Australia) beat Quill (Christchurch), 4—6, 6—o, 6—4, 6—3. MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. » Semi-final. \Dickie and Wallace beat Cox and Brown, 7—5, 6—2, 10—8. . Eve in the Taranaki liawn Tennis Association's ciampionship meeting and the handicap tournaments The rain" cleared off, however, and play was resumed yesterday., The^ courts were in excellent order, but the light was a little changeable. ' About 6 .o'clock showers compelled a cessation of : play for "the day. The surprise packet came in the defeat of Miss Nunneley by Miss Kellett JB^kei (of Sydney)' in the Ladies' Championship Singles (6—3). Miss Baker was right on to her game, but 'her opponent clearly had a/ " day off." Fishex and PeacockT defeated Wallace and Dickie, who won the New Zealand Championship Doubles, in the semi-final, 6—4,6 — 4, Parker beat H. Brown in the semi-final of the Singles, 6— 4 r 6—2. The Auckland provincial tennis championships will be decided next week, commencing ,on Wednesday and concluding on Saturday. I The entries,- are the largest in tournamenu history in Auckland, the total being 213, including those of visitors from Christchurch, Taranaki, the Waikato, and Whangarei.
