THE WELINGTON PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

The Wellington provincial lawn tennis championship and handicap tournament opened to-day at Day's Bay. There are neary 400 entries, including players from i Westporl, Blenheim, Dunedin, Christchurch, 1 Masterton, and Feilding. Good progress was made with the , games in the Men's Handicap Doubles, Ladies' Handicap Singles, and' Ladies' Handicap Doubles, and with the chamoionshipa. Gore, Mrs Hiokson and R. Swanston. , The Men's Handicap Doubles was won by Keeling and Hawkins (rec. 15), who beat Goss and Ollivier (scratch), 70—61. In the final of the Men's Handicap Singles (first grade) H. V. Holve (rec 13) beat L. W. Hawkins (tec 10) v , 60—51. The Ladies' Handicap Singles was won by Mise F, Scott (reo 16), who defeated Miss K. M'lntosh (reo 23), 50—46. Miss Penny and Mrs Hawkins (rec 16) beat Miss Merchant and Miss Hickson.
