WE LLINGTO N WI NG WHISPER.

By Peteb Paw.

October 13. Dear Paequin,— »The Pollards are now well into their Wellington season, and "Bluebell in F*iryl*nd " is proving as popular here m it has done in Christchurch and Dunedin. There was a veiy large audience- on the -first night, and business has improved nightly. I looked into the Opera House on Wednesday, and the building was literally packed with people perspiring in the h«at of a summer night. " Billy " Low, the popular manager, was beaming with smiles. The run of " Bluebell " is set down to end on next ' Wednesday, otherwise Mr Low is- confident I it could exceed the Dunedin and Christchurch runs. " Hi» Highness the Bey " is to "follow. After this production the company departs for -Auckland, where the Christmas season will be pteyed. On the | return of the juveniles to Wellington, early in the new year, " The Isle of Bong Bong " will be staged for the first time in New Zealand. Ben Fuller left for Auckland on. ' Saturday for the purpose of meeting Brother Tohn, who was due to arrive in the northern city from Sydney on the Sunday, but very important business detained him in Sydney, and he did not leave until Wednesday of this week. His arrival in Dunedin will thus be delayed. Ben Fuller will "not be back at headquarters until near the end of next week. The fine nights are proving a- boon to Wonderland, and large crowds nightly journey to this now popular reaort. Special attractions are in preparation for the festive season. The extremely hot weather during the past week has not in any way affected the attendances at the Theatre Royal; in fact, +he building has had its holding capacity severely taxed. Marion Hall, Davy's Marionettes, and Jarvis and M&rtyn hetd a bill which has given satisfaction all the week. The greatest of all , Handel's oratorios, "Israel in Egypt," is to be given in the Town Hall on the 20th by the Wellington Musical Union. There will be 800 peiformera, and the whole work will he accompanied upon the Town Hall organ by Mr Lawrence F. W&tkins, Mus. Bac. Mz Robert Parker will conduct. Alfred Woods writes me from Capetown stating that he has deferred his departure to Australia, and remains for another three months. A new play by Misa Maud Williamson was to be staged at Johannesburg at Christmas time. The Wellington Amateur Dramatic Club journey to Masterton, where they stage " Dr Billt- on Boxing Night. Mrs R. Hudson achieved success in the Choral Society's, rendering of " Messiah " this week.. She sang with a grace and delicacy of feeling which brought her genuine -plaudits from the audience.
