C.J.C.'S PROPOSALS. December 10.
CHRISTCHTTRCH, The Canterbury Jockey jClub thinks it advisable that the metropolitan clubs should co-operate and agreee upon regulations for loyally carrying cnt both the letter and the spirit of 'the Gaming and Lotteries Act Amendment. The committee of the C. J.C. proposes in the meantime to adopt the following regulations for the licensing of bookmakers at Rieoarton. unless the same are modified or amended in conference with other clubs or by the Conference: — (1) That applications for bookmakers' ! licenses must be made at least 14 days before the opening day of each race meeting. (2) That each application must be accompanied by a deposit equal to one day's fee. (8) That licenses will be renewed from day to day during the continuance of a meeting, subject to the licensee conforming to the club's regulations. (4) Fees for the renewal of the license for each additional day must be paid to the secretary at the office of the club between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on the morning of each day's races, and when such renewal h»» been, authorised by the committee it will be endorsed upon the license. (5) The C.J.C. proposes to levy the following fees for Rincarton grand stand enclosure: Summer meeting. £10 a. day; autumn meeting, £20 a day; Grand National meeting, £20 a day; spring meeting-. £20 a day; the outside enclosure one-hall the above scale. (6) No license fee will be charged to bookmakerV clerks, but their names must be submitted with the bookmakers' application, and upon a-pproval by the committee the clerk's name will be endorsed upon the j license. i (7) Licenses will only be issued upon the bookmaker undertaking to restrict bis operations to tb* tdace set aside by the committee of the club for that purpose, and any breach of this regulation will result in the immediate withdrawal of the license. (8) Bookmakers shall not change their clerks without obtaining the consent of the committee of the club. Applications for licenses for the C.J.O. summer meeting will be received up to noon on Thursday, January 23, 1808- .No application for the summer meeting will be considered after the above date. The result of each application for a license for the summer meeting will be supplied to the applicants by the secretary at the office of the club at noon on Thursday, January 30. Experience may show the necessity of making some amendments fn the above regulations,' but the committee of the C.J.O. i« of opinion that if the bookmakers loyally carry out the Gaming and Lotteries Act there will be very little need for / amendment*. '
