FARM LABOURERS' DISPUTE.

TIMARU, December 10. At the Farm Labour Conciliation Board to-day a farm labourer, 32 years in the colony and 15 years with his present employer, said he was perfectly satisfied with present conditions and £1 a week, with £5 bonus for harvest. S. L. Twentyman, hon. secretary to the Farmers' Defence Committee, was examined and cross-examined at length. He had made inquiries of workers, farmers, and others, and could not ascertain that there had been any dissatisfaction shown by workers tflt the union oame along. As a practical farmer, he condemned the union's proposals root and branch, and denied t&e possibility of framing an award to suit both the farmers and the men. John Talbot, chairman of the Farmers' Co-operative Association and a farmer of 3000 acres, gave similar evidence on these points, and added that wheat-growing did not- pay on the average of years. Moat farmers sold in April, and the average price of wheat that month for* 10 ajid 18 years past had been between 3e and 3s Id per bushel.
