The deaths in November were 208 — a decrease of 62 on tho number in October. Of the total death?, males contributed 109 and females 99. Forty of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 19.23 per cent, of the whole number. Twenty-eight of these were under one year of age. There were 70 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards. Eleven men-^oS, 63 (four), 71, 77, 78, 85 (three), — and six women — 66 (two), 67, 6?, £6, 88— died at Auckland; eight men— 6s, 66, 71, 74 (two), 76, 77, 81— and four women— 67 (two), 77, 66— at Wellington; ll" men— 6s, 66, 69, 70, 73, 74, 76 (two), 77, 85 (two) — and 11 women — 65, 65, 67 (two), 70, 71, 72, 75, 76, 82, 87— at Ohristchurch ; and 10 men— 6s, 63, 71, 74 (two), 77,- 78, 79 (two), 81 — and nine women —65 (two), 75, 76 (two), 80, 81, 83, 84— at Dunedin. **" A penny-in-the-slofc automatic boot-black-ing machine has just made its appearance at Richmond, Surrey. The machine is fitted with four circular brushes, which are driven by electricity, and tho whole operation of cleaning a pair of boots is mechanicafly performed in 70 seconds. Shearing is evidently a very remunerative occupation while it lasts. One man, who has been engaged at the work since October 23 last, told a Wairarapa Age reporter thai; his earnings during that time amounted to £60. In three weeks at one shed he drew over £33, and for -about four days at another he received over £6.
