SOUTH TAIERI.
December 16.— During the past few days turnip-thinning his • commenced in real earnest on most of the local farms. Generally speaking, the turnip trope are looking well, and are fairly well forward. The oat amd wheat crops are- «lso looking exceptionally well, and so fax there is every prospect of an early harvest. During the past week we have had two or three welcome showers of rain, which has had the effect of making everything look green. I notice the yellow, weed is now in full bloom on several farms,' and the Canadian thistle is also becoming; prominent. School Picnic— The Otokia Public School hold their annual picnic at -the Outram Glen? on Wednesday ■ next, 18th inst., and the Henley" School picnic takes place at the, school, Henley, on- Friday, 20th mat. The examinations are over in both schools, am? I understand vexy satisfactory results have been obtained at both centres. General. — The roads are in splendid orde^ at the present time, and it is to be hoped! they will continue so— at least, till* the holidays are over. The- Berwick annual sports will be held as usual on New Tear's Day, but for Eome reason or other I understand the Waihola sports have thie year bseo abandoned.
