A CONSTABLE STABBED.
PALMERSTON N., December 14. On Saturday afternoon Constable Connor was stabbed in the abdomen by Williani Waugh, a well-known farmer, of Stoney Creek, when the officer was arresting him on a charge of drunkenness. Waugh i* 72* years of age. The weapon used was a pruning knife, and the wound is a serious one. Connor behaved pluckily, and with the assistance of a bystander got: Waugh into * cab before giving way. Medical assistance was called, and Connor was coif* vbr^ed to the hospital. He is progressing satisfactorily. December 16. W. Waugh, charged with wounding Constable Connor with intent to do grievous bodily harm, was remanded till Monday. The granting of bail was opposed by the police, but granted — accused in £200 and sureties of £200. This was forthcoming. Connor is progressing satisfactorily a$ the hospital, but will not be onjt of danger till the next 24 hourf*
