RAC ING IN NEW ZEALAND

TAHUNA PARK TROTTING MEETING. Second Dat — Wednesday, December 4. The Tahuna Park Trotting Club concluded its spring meeting on Wednesday, and was again favoured with an excellent attendance. A strong wind prevailed throughout the entire afternoon, and was doubly objectionable oa account of the dust which, it kept in circulation on the lawn. The various fields which were seen out dxiring the afternoon had aleo to contend ngttinst the strong breeze ■which blew against them when running along the back stretch. The track tw in better order than on the opening day erf the meeting, and was judiciously watered between the races. Sport commenced with the Pony Handicap, in which Neglected was always out in front, and finally won by a couple of length* after jeopardising her chanoe by putting in a couple of breaks in the lest quarter. Princess Ja-ne had an easy win in the Advance Handicap, and Torpedo Bill found nothing capable of seriously menaoing his chance of fcuccess in the Publicans' Handicap, which he won nicely in 3min 48 3-sseo. There we* not much to choose between Cling and Neglected in point of favouritiem in tbe Pony Race, but both Princess Jane and Torpedo Bill were pronounced favourites for their races. A good finish wm witnessed between Silver Black and Major Election in the Bracelet Handicap, and the latter beat the former by a very narrow margin. The first-named wa« favourite, and th« latter was also fairly well fancied. Fueee acted well in th« James Memorial, but both Success and Verax (the former in particular) doubly handicapped themselves by mixing their gait*. Success was favourite, and Fusee alco had a strong following. Turk, who was made favourite for the Electric Handicap, would not strike into his gait, and never got going, whilst Arbitrator had the race won a long way from home. Wargod was made a good favourite for the Waverley Handioap, and, after beginning badly, he cut his field down and won nicely at the finish. The day's ■port &nd a successful meeting was brought to a conclusion with the Recovery Handicap, which w*s won by a good favourite in Too Soon. The total put through th« machines amounted to £4733 10s, as compared with £3672 10s handled on the corresponding day of the club's last spiring meeting. Th« total investments (which were smartly handled by Mr W. James and an efficient stall) totalled J89310 for the two days, a* against last year's figures, which amounted to £7119 10s. The bookmakers again refrained from taking out a license. The meeting was carried out and well managed by Mr H. L. James and the officials of the club. Mr L. C. Hazlett was again a conspicuous success as starter, whilst Mr H. Gourley's handicapping provided some interesting racing.
