PROTEST TO THE MINISTER. WELLINGTON, December 9. The Chinese of the Dominion have cent a protest to the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. Dr Findlay) agaiiwt the Chinese Immigrants' Amendment Act, which has been reserved for the Royal assent, and whioh seeks to impose an education test in English in addition to the £IGO poll tax. The petitioners urge that no exemption ia provided for Chinese residents of New Zealand now visiting China, who hare no facilities in tho di&Vricts they are visiting to learn to read English. Further, they urge that the act is opposed to the well-recognised principles of international law, and is unfriendly to the Chinese Empire. They are asking hi» Majesty to refuse hie assent to the act.
