AUCKLAND, December 8.
The Apia correspondent of the Herald 1 recently stated that Dr Solf, Governor of German Samoa, had tendered his resignation. Though the exact cause was nob made icnown, it was believed that the sup_port accorded a certain candidate -at the election for councillor* was partly responsible. This candidate was formerly an open antagonist of the Governor, and it wa» . alleged that he had served 30 days in m fortress in Germany for Hbela on* Dr Sbrf: Strong efforts- -were- made to induce the > Governor to withdraw his resignation. Mostf of those who Voted for tht man referred to ' stated that they had dptie bo under "a mtsf apprehension. The correspondent writes under date, November 21 :— " Dr Solf has now agreed to withdraw his resignation. AH but eight of those who voted for the distasteful councillor withdrew their endorsement. The Governor's decision nas given great satisfaction, as he is very popular among alf the many nationalities who are represented here."
