FIRES.

AUCKLAND, November 18.

A fire at Karangahake, near Waihi, destroyed four shops, a 6table, and a buj?av shed used by Robertson and Co., grocers, as a temporary storeroom. The fire spread to the billiard room tenanted by E. Hawker, and to the premises recently opened as an agency by the National Bank. The Fire Brigade arrested the blaze, saving 1 the rest of the block of wooden shops. The premises destroyed were partl-v insured. NAPIER. November 18.

A fire at Takapau yesterday destroyed Lake's Hotel, Neilson's cycle shop, the Bank of New Zealand, and Hansen's drapery store. There was no water supply. The insurances are : On the hotel end bank (owned by the Napier Brewery Company), £1750 in the Norwich Union and £750 in the Australian Alliance, the contents of the hotel for £600, and of the bank for £100, both in the Norwioh Union, the cycle and drapery shops £250 in the New Zealand, Hansen's stock £550 in the Norwich Union.
