OAMARU NOTES.

(Faou Otm Own CossxsrOMDsirr.) OAMARU. November 13.

Inform*tiont were laid against two persons in Oamsru to-day charging them with wiling intoxicating liquors without being licensed to do to. It is understood that th© charges refer to certain supposed temperance drinks which are being cold and which are Mid to contain as much as nearly 6 per cent, of proof spirit. The cases will turn on whether these are intoxicating liquors or not. An information was aleo laid against Charles Kea.rns on a charge of keeping liquor for sale, but the issue does not include the point raised in the other caseß. A meeting of creditors in the estate of David Ross, jun., late of Enfield, firmer, but now of Milton, labourer, was held today. Some features of interest were disclosed from his sworn statement. It ap-

peared that bankrupt occupied a lease-in-perpetuity section at Windeor Park, and that when he sold it he held a clearing sale of stock and plant, at which bankrupt's mother purchased, or had knocked down to her, horses and plant aggregating a considerable sum, and that no money was paid by her for these line 6, which were allowed to stand against a contra account of £250. When the estate was washed up certain creditors were paid 13s in the pound, and a petition in bankruptcy has now been filed with a view to recovering ihe value of the goods obtained by the mother. The creditors eventually asked the assignee to ascertain whether the satisfaction of the mother's claim was not a preferential payment, and if so, to take steps to recover from the mother, who 16 farming at Milton. The Oamaru Borough Council on Tuesday evening adopted the system of 6ewage recommended by Mr F. W. Marchant, of Tima.ru, as a working scheme for the borough. It aeems probable that the council will carry out a portion of the scheme at once and extend it later ac required, but that is a matter for further consideration.
