DOCTORS IN THE DOMINION.
(Fhom Ottb. Owx Corhesfondmtt.) WELLINGTON, November 15. A return presented to the Legisiativi Council shows that there are 657 registered medical practitioners in the Dominion, at compared with 506 in 1901. They are distributed as follows:— Auckland, 88: Wellington, 85; Christohurch, 53; D\medin, 63. Outside the cities the numbers arc:—Auckland. 162; Taranaki, 30; Hawke's Bay. 33; Wellington, 169: Mnrlborough, 10; kelson, 23; Wostland, 12; Canterbury, 111; Otago, 137. It is stated in a note that the figures for the cities may bo inaccurate, as medical men state their addresses when, registering, but seldom alter them when commencing practice. The figures do nob include 83 doctors who were found in 1906 to have left New Zealand. 52 whose addresses were unknown, and 79 who were returned as " out of New Zealand." Tnere are 149 medical trtudenta, 507 registered nurses, and 522 hospital nurses. Registered midwives are located as follows: — Auckland city. 92; Wellington City. 92; Christchuroh. 25; Dunedin, 35; Auckland province, 229; Taranaki, 25; Hawke's Bay, 31: Wellington province, 203 ; Marlborough, nil; Nelson, 13; Westland. 34; Canterbury, 51; Otago, 139;— total, 725.
