THE MIRANUI FLAXMILL.

PALMERSTON N., November 17. The opening of the new flaxmill owned by Seifert and Co., at Makerua. known a 4 Miranui, took place on Saturday in th« presence of a large number of Parliamentarians and business men. The members of the pv.:ty were shown ovei the Makerua swamp, an immense area where the raw material ii obtained. Afterwards they inspected th« extensive mills, equipped with modern machinery and capable of turning ou< about 50 tons of the finished material weekly. The grounds cover an area oi 300 acre?, and the mill employs about 15(1 men. It is claimed to be the largest and most up-to-date flaxmill in the Dominion. The men are well provided lor, having good accommodation, and splendid billiard and reading room, etc. At the luncheon given by the company to the visitors, speeches were delivered by the Hons. R. M'Aab, Duncan. Hogg, Greenslade, Lawrv, Field Heke, M.H.R.'e. Mr Booth (Christchurch), and other visitors. They expressed pleasure at the new enterprise, and wished the company success. The Prime Minister and the Hon. Mr Millar sent apologifes for absence. A telegram from the High Commissioner received for the occasion by Mr M'Nab quotes: — " Flax.— London. Good fair 6pot, £30; January-March, £28 10s; fair spot, £28; January-March, £27: Manila, spot. £30;' January-March, £29 10s. There is no reason to fear a serious decline."
