ASHBURTON GRALN MARKET.
"Wheat. — The market can scarcely be said to have recovered its normal condition. Farmers are still holding for higher rates, but seem inclined to meet buyers; whereas the bulk of the millers refuse to pay more than 4s on trucks, except for prime pearl, which appears to be in more demand than other descriptions. In one instance a sale is reported at 4s 2d for this class of wheat, while 4s has been paid for Hunters alone. Business, on the whole, has been confined to a few individual sales. Prices quoted by sellers are : — Pearl and Tuscan 4s 3d, Hunters 4s to 4s Id. Oats. — There has been a slightly better demand owing to orders from the North Island coming to hand. Prices have not materially altered, but should enquiry continue, stocks will be so short that p, further rise must of necessity take place, present rates being: — Canadians 2s 9d to 2s lOd, good short feed 2s 8d to 2s 9d, Danish 2s 7d.
Oatsheaf Chaff.-'— Orders for prime quality continue to come to hand, principally from Oi/ago, and only a limited quantity is now available. Prices are still unaltered, but it is difficult to supply prime quality. Prices are £4 2s 6d to £4 5s >n trucks.
