OTAGO LAND BOARD.
*[*he monthly meeting of the Land Board was commenced on the 11th ; present — the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr D. Barron), Messrs W. Dallas, J. Tough, G. Livingstone, and J. • M'Kenzie.
P. W. M'Kni^ht -wrote with reference to »n application ne desired in make for an occupation lease over an. area of about six acres *t Waipori. — Application to be granted subject to survey and consent of waxden. David Conly was granted exemption from residence on section 17, block V, Woodland district, for another 12 months.
An application by P. Dillon, jun., for a lease in prepetuity over 400 acres of the Settlement Block, Home HiHs, Blackstone, was declined, and an application by T. A. Lewis fox a lease in perpetuity over 500 acres of the nine block was similarly dealt with.
An application by Griffith Jones for an occupation leas© under " The Mining Districts X*nd Occupation Act, 1894," over 100 acres in. block I, St. Bathans district, was considered, and a surrender of Mr Jones's present lease was accepted. The application ■was granted for the extended arwt, being sections 72 and 107, block I, St. . Bathans district; rent €d per acre. 6. A. Manson was granted an occupation lease under " The Mining Districts Land Occupation Act, 1894," over 100 acres in block 11, Cromwell district, at a rental of 6d per acre. W. Annan wrote asking if the board would accept surrender of his present occupation lease over sections 9 and" 10, block XI, Leaning Rock district, witfi a view to his obtaining a lease over a- larger area. — The board could not see its w«y to accept a surrender. C. R. James wrote asking if the board would be prepared to allow him to dispose of his section la, Greenfield Settlement, en account of ill health. — Agreed to under the circumstances mentioned by applicant.
Henry Hogg applied for a license to occupy the small area fronting section 11, block XXII, Clutha district, formerly held under licence by G. Bell. — Yearly license granted; rent 10s per annum. Ranger O'Neill forwarded a report on the unsold portion of Newhaven town, block VI, Gl-enoma.ru district. — Report sflopted ; sections to be redefined by survey ; the question of offering sections for sale to be dealt with later on.
J. P. Tamblyn was granted a yearly license to occupy a> small ar«a in block 11, Teviot district, between the road and the river, opposite sections 48 and 55, at a rental of 25s per annum.
The board was requested to authorise the receiver of land revenue to deal vritAi the sum of £35 paid as valuation for improvements, on section 60, block I, Catlin's district. — Aeoeiver to pay to revenue £5 12s 6d arrears of rent, and £1 Is cost of re-entry ; to Clutha County Council £2 Is Id arrears of rates;, and to John M'Kinley £23 16s sd. The board was requested- to determine as to how section 12> block IV, Lower Wanaka distriot, should be dealt with. — Pastoral license to be requested to consent to the surrender of hi 3 license of tho section referred to, and applicant for the section to be communicated with. •
The board was requested to authorise the receiver of land revenue to deal with 'he sum of £21, paid a« valuation for improvements on section 12, block Xlfl, Rimu district. — Receiver to pay to revenue arrears of rent £2 11s 2d; coat of rc-en\y £1 10s; arrears of rates 8s 9d: fr> W. Baggitt and Fletcher, on behalf of Robertcon Brown, applied for c sawmilling license over an area at Blackscleugh, Rankleburn, and also to have an area of 200 acres adjoining reserved for future use. — License granted, subject to payment of valuation to be assessed -by the ranger; terms of payment to be fixed later on. Deposit, £10.
Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by R. Cockburn, on behalf of John Inghs, for a grazing license over a small area frcuting cection 7, block XIV, Benger district. — Yearly license granted; rent, 5s per »ere.
Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by L. Ryan, on bshalf of Mrs J. Mitchell, far a license to occupy part of sections 42 and 43, block I, Cairnhill district.— Yearly license* granted ; rent* JE3 per annum. Track through the land to be left open.
Application for land under Land for Settlements _ Act: — Samuel Purvis, section 37a, block ' XIII, Barnego Settlement. — Lease granted, subject to approval of the Minister. Thomas Morgan wrote with reference to Vinegar Flat mining reserve, block 1, St. Bathans district, asking that he be allowed the privilege of running his stock thereon — License over the mining reserve to include the name of Thomas Morgan. Ranger Mackenzie reported on the application by Alfred Grcoves for a license to occupy section 1, blot* XVII, town of Glenorchy — Yearly license granted at previous rental.
The board was requested to determine as to how section 6, block IV, Blackstone disUict, ba dealt with. — Yearly license granted to H. O. Harrex; rent, 2!-j per annum. Fencing along the Main , read to be valued by the ranger, and paid for by the applicant; other fences to be arranged for with Mr Mee. The following applications for workers' dwellings in Windle Settlement were approved: — John Henry Salisbury, allotment 50; John Murdoch, allotment 48; H. E. Walshe, allotment 28; S. J. Taylor, allotment 30.
Ranger Atkinson reported that Jas. Hanley, lessee of section- 51a, Steward Settlement. was not complying with the residence and improvement conditions of his lease — Lessee to show cause why his lease should not be forfeited for ncm-coinplianw with the residence conditions.
Ranger Atkinson reported that John Norton. lessee of section 57a, Steward Settlement, was not complying with the residence condition of his lease. — Lessee to show cau=e nhy his lease should ncjt be forfeited for noncompliance with the residence conditions.
Ranger Atkinson reported that Wi'.ham Rogers, lessee of section 19a, EJderehe Settlement, was not complying with the improvement conditions of tis lease.— Le=see to bo required to bHOw cause at a meeting of the Land Beard to be held in Oamani on the 27th inst. why his lease should not be forfeited for non-compliance with improvement conditions.
Tho Secretary of the High Schools Board ■wrote stating that the board could not see its way to agree to the proposal to exchange the perpetual lease over sections 17, 20, 23, and 24, block V, Strath-Taieri district, for * lease in perpetuity. The following application for ordinary rural land under lease-in-perpetuity tenure was granted : —Sections 1, 2, 4, 7, 11, 14, 16 to 19, block I, Tuapeka West district, Arnold Cross. The board was requested to authorise the Beceiver otf Land Revenue to deal with the sum of £48 2s 6d, paid as valuation for improvements on section 12. block XIII, Rimu district. — Receiver to pay to revenue arrears of len^ £1 Is 9d; cost "of re-entry, £1 10s; and to J. D. M*Lennan £16 10s 9d. The following transfers were granted- — C. P. Hewton, allotment Ba, Windsor Park Estate ; H. T. liayne to Samuel Purvis, section sa, Barnego Estate. An application to subdivide section 12, block 111, Catlins district, and to transfer 2 acres from Jane Eason to O. W. D. Tabor for a dairy factory site, was approved, subject to the production of a duly approved plan. The meeting was concluded yesterday, the same members being present as on the previous day. Petrie Bros, and F. Nicolsan made applications for a license to cut flax at Martin's Bay. — Applicants to define area applied for, and to depQsit sum of £20. Ranger M'Dougall forwarded an application from Carl Hansen for a license to cut 1000 pos"e and 20 cords of firewood over 20 acres, Wilkin River. — License granted at royalty rates ; term, six months. A letter from Lee and Grave with reference to the small area in block I. Oamaru district, on Laudon Creek, applied for by R. H. and A. A. Ward, was considered. — The area was granted to Mrs Agnes Ward at a capital value of £15 per acre and survey fees. M'Levie wrote askine if the board would allow him to dispose of his section 3», Greenfield Settlement.— To be informed that the board had no power to agree to a. transfer within the five years provided by the act An application for rural land on O.R.P section 40. block VII, Glenomaru district, by Michael Michaelson. was approved. The Acting-secretary of the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supp'y Company applied to either purchase or lease section 76, block 11, j Wwkouaiti district, as a site for a cheeee | factory —County Council to be consulted as to advisability of disposing of this erea. The board was requested to authorise the Receiver of Land Revenue to deal with the sum of £1-15 paid as valuation for improvements on section 7, block XIV, Pomahaka Downs Estate. — Receiver to pay to revenue £101 7s arrears of rent, £1 10s cost of reentry, and £42 3s ta George Harvey. Th« Receiver of Land Revenue reported that the rents on the following runs remain unpaid:— Run No. 204e. Mrs E. Howell ; j Run No. 233, Mrs C. A. Rayne ; Run No 94, etc. David Armstrong; run, Wakatipu district, Edward Monson; Run No. 492. Edward Green ; sections in Dunback district, W. A. Sutherland.— Runs to be gazetted for forfeiture.
