PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS
WELLINGTON, April 20. The follow ins; police changes hive been decided upon :— lnspector Kiel?, of Wangar.ui if to have charge of the new Thames and Bay of Plenty district. He will be succeeded by Inspector Wilson, of Greymouth. Sub-in enector Black, of Duncdm, ha= been made an inspector, and will be trans ferred to Greymouth. Station-sergeant Norwood, of Christchurch, has been pio-n-.ored to sub-inspector, and will be transferred to Dunedin. Sergeant Johnston, of St. Albans, is to become station-sergeant at Christchurch. Constable Willis, of Motueka, has been made a sergeant, and trill do duty at Dunedin. Sergeant Donovan is to be transferred from Christclv.-reh to. St. Aibans. and Sergeant Barrett from Dunedin to Cbristchu«-ch.
On the Dover-Ostend service the turbine boats use. only 17 tons of coal on a passage, £s against 24 tons used by the paddlcfagtfit
