DUNEDIN D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

Motto: "Union is strength." The usual weekly meeting of the club wa« held in the cub room on Tuesday, February 12, when the president, Go Hon, occupied the chair. The visitors (to whom the chairman extended welcome) were Dot, Eewa. Pakehe, Brother Bill, Fred, Firefly, and Laddie. The minutes of the preceding meeting having been read and confirmed, members took 'part in the debate "Do we profit by learning foreign languages?" The sides were constituted as follows: — Affirmative: Scobie (leader), Go Hon.- Laddie, Fred, V. Corona, and Tomahawk. Negative : A. Ned (leader). Cornish,. Gullyite, Brother Bill, and Scots Gxey. The judges, being called upon to give their decision, declared unanimously in favour ' of the affirmative. Tne " question box " was then called into requisition, and helped to spend the remainder of the evening pleasantly. Leaders for neit Tuesday's debate, " Will Bluff eventually take away Dunedin's shipping trade?" were chosen as follows: — Affirmative: Harry; negative: Go Hon. At the conclusion of the^ meeting the committee met and drew up the following syllabus for March : — March 5. — Short biography of your favourite author, with, quotations from same. March 12. — " Should railways be Stateowned ?" March 19. — Debate, ' Is camping out of town from Saturday *o Monday detrimental to young men?" March 26. — Open meeting 1 .
