CHEISTCHURCH, February 12. The Exhibition band contest was continued this morning, when a start was made in the " own choice " selection competition. Twenty-nine bands entered, and were drawn to play in the following order: — Tuapcka., Masterton Municipal, Denniston, Invercargill Municipal, Napier Garrison, Nelson Garrison, Palmerston North, Woolston, Oamaru Garrison, Kaikorai, Jupp's (Wellington), Auckland First Battalion, Auckland Garrison, Derry's Private (Christchurch), Gisborne City, Greymouth Battalion, Timaru Garrison. Ruahino Battalion, Timaru Marine, Hastings Town, Invercargill Garrison, Newcastle City, Dunedin Citizens', Mornington, Taranaki Garrison, Wellington Garrison, Waihi Federal, Dunedin Navals, Wanganui Garrison. Play continued throughout the day and evening. February 13. The following are the results of the band competitions to-day : — Euphoniums: — W. J. Stains (Granity), £6 points, 1 ; W. Hickman (Wanganui Garrison), 94 points, and R. J. Estall [Wcolston), 9+ points (equal), 2. Bass Trombones : —J. Cumming IDenniston), 91 points, 1; J. Sutherland (Ist Infantry, Auckland), 80 points, 2; A. J. Stewart (Dunedin Citizens), 70 points, 3. Side Drums:— A. Jacobs (Lyttelton Marine), 97 points, 1; C. Cooper '.Wanganui Garrison). 95 points, 2. Tenor Horns: — C. Hansen (Nelson Garrison), 93 points, 1; R. Green (Mornington Brass Band), 87 points, 2; G. Wilson (Woolston), 8* points, 3; C. Forest (Wanganui Garrison), 82 points, and G. P. KeUy (Invercargill Garrison), 82 points (equal), 4. Flugel Horns:— T. Bauchop (Kaikorai). 90 points, 1; P. Cole (Jupp's Band), 83 points, 2. A meeting of delegates from the various hands throughout the colony was held this afternoon, when a motion was adopted affirming the desirability of forming a New Zealand Bands' Association. The annual meeting of the North Island Bands' Association was held subsequently, when tho matter was referred to the executive to take <=teps to carry the proposal into effect. February 14. The Exhibition band contest was continued this morning with the grand test .selection " Ilombardi " (Verdi), arranged by Mr C Trussell, of the Waihi Federal Band. The order of playing was determined as follows: — Dunedin JCavals, Mornington, Napier Garrison, Invercargill, Wellington Garrison. Timaru Marine, Dunedin Citizens, Inveroargill Garrison, Kaikorai, Hastings, Waihi, Derry's, Taranaki Garrison, Auckland First Battalion, (iisborne, Greymouth. Newcastle (New South Wales), Rualiine. Nelson, Wanganxii, Palmerston North. Denniston, Woolsfon, Jupp's, Masterton Municipal, Tuapcka, Timaru Garrison, Oamaru Garrison, Auckland Garrison. A start was made at 9.45 a.in. Fpbr«ry 15. The Exhibition band content na6*rc>umed this morning with a number of piehminary t>olo competitions. In the B flat tenor trombone competition (judge, Mr W. S. King) the following took part:— J. Congalton (Mornington). W. Fellows (Newcastle, N.S.W.), T. Gray (Wanganui Garrison), S. Sly (Wanganui), W Ames ijupp's), A. S. Erskine 'Napier Garrison), A. Handley Garrison) D. M-Corkmdale (Tuapeka), H. Taylor (First Infantry, Auckland), W. Muesen (Ljrtelton Marine), W. Wearne (Lyttelton Marine), T. Williamson (Dunedin Navals), W. R. La n hem (Woolston), G. Saunders (Palmerston North), and J. Elliott (Palmerston North). The four players first mentioned were reserved by the judge to decide the final this evening. The quartets (judge, Mr Otto Schwartz) were conducted by contingents from Newcastle City Band (N.S.W.), Kaikorai, Wanganui Garrison, Woolston, Palmerston North, Dunedin Navals, and Greymouth. The first three play off this evening. In the BB flat bass competition (Mr W. S. King judge) those taking part were: — F. Albrec'ht (Gisborne), E. Coyle (Jupp'p), B. Cudby (Taranaki), S. Fenton (Tuapeka), C Bartley (Frist Infantry, Auckland), A. Gilmour (Lyttelton Marine), R. Wilson (Derry's). R. E- Chisholm (Kaikorai), A. E. Seager (Timaru Garrison), C. Maher (Masterton Municipal), W Penton (Woolston), J. Neighbours (Granity), J. Guthrie (Wanganui Garrison), E, O. Hansen. (Bluff Navals), D. Flanagan (Mornington), W. Pittam (Palmerston North), and E. Whit© (Dunedin Naval*). The competitors chogen for the final were: — Mah«r (Masterton), Guthrie (Wanganui), Ferrton (Woolston), an^ Flanagan (Mornington).
