HAWKE'S BAY.

A letter has been received from the Hon. G. FowWs refusing to comply with the Charitable 'Aid Board's appeal for a grant of £2000 towards the cost of erecting a new home for the aged. At a meeting of the Hospital Board Mr J. D. Williams's cheque for £1000 towards the cost of the chronic ward was received, and the donor elected a life member. A donation of £100 to the same object was received from Mr E. W. Knowles. A motion waa passed by the Education Beard that all Native schools should be placed under the control of education boards.
