CHRISTCHURCH, February 6. a _ At Addington stock market to-day there was }. an exceptionally heavy yarding of all classes (] of sheep and fat cattle, and fair entries of a all other stock. The attendance was very (1 large. Store sheep showed a considerable (] drop in price, especially lambs. Prime freez- 2 ing lambs were firm, competition being ren- c dered more keen by the- presence of Mr 8 ( M'Cullotigh, Messrs John Cooke and Co.'s j 1 buyer, from Melbourne, who was here last : 1 year. Fat sheep sold well, ewes being rather •) s firmer. Except for very prime sorts fat cattle ' V vrere easier an consequence of a very heavy 1 yarding. Pigs of all classes «old well, but 4 store and dairy cattle were dull of sale. 1 Store She«p.— The shortage of feed caused c < a heavy entry of store sheep, the bu-lk being lambs and wethers. There was a considerable w deplio* in prices all round, backward lambs d selling at very low rates. The principal sales tl were: 331 aged ewes at 7s 2d, 80 at 7s Id, 61 n at Bs, 70 boilers at 2s 6d, 445 two and four- n tooth wethers at 12s sd, 283 at 12s 2d_ 330 h two-tooths at 10s 9d. 90 art 7s 4d, 179 wethers V and ewes at 9s sd, 181 lambs at 8b 6d to 9s, J 810 at) 8s 6d -to 83 lQd, 92 ftt 7s sd. 216 at 6s J 11

3d 241 at 6s Id, 93 at 5s 3d, 110 at 3s 3d to 5s 3d, 463 at 3s 8d to 3s 9d. Fat Lambs. — There were 9226 fat lambs penned — the largest entry of the season. A fair proportion was of prime quality, but many lots were only in store condition, and were bouglrt by graziers. There was good competition right through the sale, and prices for prime freezers were firmer, while unfinished lots, which were mostly bought by graziera, were easier, in sympathy with the decline in the- store market. Prime freezers made from 15a to 18s, and a few extra lots to 18s sd ; medium, 13s to 14s 6d, and backward 7s 9d to 12s 6d. Fat Sheep. — There was a very large yarding of fat sheep, mostly ewes, with a few good lines of wethers. There was no change in theprice of wethers, but all good ewes, fit for freezing, were- rather firmer. The range of prices was: Prim-e wethers, 17s 6d to 20s 9d ; others, 14s 2d to 17s; prime ewes, 143 6d to 17s 3d ; medium, 12s to 14s ; aged, 8s to lls 6d ; merino wethera, 5s 3d to 9s 9d. Fa-t Ca-ttle. — There was a record yarding of fat cattle, 362 head being penned, whicih was 21 more than at the 'double market before Christmas. There were a number of lines of prime steers, but the bulk of the yarding consisted of light and unfinished sorts. All classes sold well, medium quality showing some improvement. Steers brought £4 12s 6d to £10 17s 6d ; heifers, £4 12s 6d to £7 ; cows, £4 to £6 — equal to 21s to 23s 6d for prime and 18s to 20s for medium per 1001b. Veal oalves made from 3s to 15s for small, and up to 35s for -well-finished sorts. Store and Dairy C»ttle. — There was a- large entry of all classes of store cattle, including two or three lines of two and three-year-old steers. There was a- very poor demand, and most of the lots that changed hands were bought for potting. Calves made 12s 6d; yearlings, 20s to 255; two and a-hoJf year old heifers, from the- south, 35s 6d; forward heifers, £3 to £3 10s; dry cows, 20s to £3 Is. There was a full entry of dairy cows of a poor class, and they met with a dull sale at from £3 to £6 16s. Pigs. — There was a fair entry of all classes of pigs, and there was a good all round demand at late rates. Baconers made from 45s to 54s— equal to 4Jd per lb ; porkers from 30s to 42s— equal to 4Jd to 5d per lb; large stores from 249 to 345 ; medium from 18s to 235 ; suckers and weaners from 8s to 14s.
