''' (Fjioii Ora Omr Cobrespoxbzht.) -inYercargilT bids fair' to become very Uxgely devoted to tho J?» m © <>£ bowls in the immediate future. The people in the wotfi part of the town are preparing the formation of a. green, and hope to have it ;e»dy -for play * somewhere about January >r?Fe"Druary; and in addition to this there Is ib be' a new green in the east end of the town. At a meeting held in connection irith ' tho latter proposal it was announced &it there would be very strong support riven' if it were decided to go °p with she project. There will be no difficulty jnanoiaiiy, and when one hears that among Jhe members of Te Rangi— the name of the new club— are to be found Messrs ftennie, J. Findlay. J. E. Taylor, J. Lock, A. Harper, md D. S. Thomson — all players who have taken part in the N.Z.B.A. tournaments, — ail doubt as to the success »? the new club vanishes. It is possible jhat when the next Easter tournament takts places there will be four bowling rro-)M3 available, so that it may be possible to carry out the doubles on the section principle as well &s the rinks. The annual meeting of the Southland L'iub wa« held last week. The committee were able to report everything in a rosy cond.tio'i, finances sound, membership altogctier satisfactory, and no grievances. jTnis tpeaks well for the management of the olub. A special bonus was awarded Ito Caretaker Bayne for the thoroughly capable manner in which lie had carried out his duties. It was generally admitted by; visitors that the Southland Green was second to none in the colony, and those Southland members who during the seaeon had travelled north and had played on other greens modestly stated that they wc-e well satisfied to be at home when it came to .playing bowls. _,-,.,. TU» meeting of the North End Club is to' take place this week. I understand Xhat Ibe club has had a good year, and iri'l be aWe to show » small balance on the year's working. In oort.ectiou with the Southland Ciud, I, must not forget to mention that Mr* C. ' M'Phail, who has taken a most indefatigable secretary a-nd treasurer for tfi<» rsst four years, has retired from the position. Members were generally agreed #hafc 'Mr MTbail's retirement from the f os.'tion VMS * distinct loss **> +i>* dub,
83 be hii 1 carried out hie duties in a thoroughly efficient and altogether pleasant manner. Tho absence of friction in the work of tho year was largely attributed to tho tact and management of the retiring si -ere wry.
