CRIFFEL LEAD SLUICING COMPANY. THE OPENING CEREMONY.

(Fbom a Cobbespoxdsxt.) CARDRONA, April 17. The Criffel Lead .Sluicing Company (Ltd.), having completed the water-race and fixed the pipes, had a most successful opening ceremony on Monday, 16;h inst., at which over 60 persons were present, many being ladies. Great interest was manifested in the proceedings, the turning on of the water and the opening of the works being entrusted to Mr Louis Gards, one of the directors from Dunedin, who was accompanied by Mr Trvthall (the secretary), the ether director present being Mr M'DougaJl, who is the local resident director. Mr Dugald M'Gregor (the manager) was highly eulogised for the splendid race he had constructed, much of it being through rock. The line of pipes, 100, was so soundly put together that there was not a leak ;n; n the whole line. The whole of th? race construction, fixing pipes, and plant was completed in the wonderfully short time of three months and a few days. Complimentary speeches wore delivered by Mr Gards, the local director, the secretary, the manager, and others, afte-r which the company was invited to paitake of the refreshments provided, and success was drunk and cheers given for the success of the Criffel Lead Sluicing Company.
