WAIHEMO county council

The ordinary monthly meeting of the "Wai* hemo County Council was held at Palmerstonv on Saturday; when there were present — Crs Muir (acting chairman), Stenhouse, D. Ross, Isbister, Philip, and O'Connell. ikspectob's report. The Inspector (Mr G-. Cruickshank) reported that the B-each road was mow formed to Saltwater Creek, which would be an advantage to tourists. Tho county workmen had carried out some of the work, which he thought woul3 be satisfactory to the Government engineer. The road through Bushey Hiding, leading to Goodwood, had also been put in repair, and one blind turn having been straightened would give the travelling public more satisfaction. He was unable to procure trucks for conveying gravel in Goodwood until some time had elapsed, and as a result the workmen had been put on Garden's road and the Switchback, in Bluemountain Eiding. The contractors in Macraes and Dunbank Ridings were all badly behind with their work. Good progress' had been made generally with the work. — Report received, the inspector being instructed to see the contractors in regard to the completion of their work. CCHBESFONDENOS. The Treasury Department wrote stating that gold revenue amounting to JE33 12s 7d had been, remitted to the credit of the council. — Received. The District Road Engineer wrote asking for information as to authorities and balances of authorities in the hands of the council on March 31.— Information supplied. Dunoan and MacGregor, solicitors, wrote forwarding plan showing subdivision of Mr James Kilgour's property at Goodwood. The road had been formed and widened in. compliance with the act, a>nd they asked that the seal of the counci 1 be- affixed in the usual manner. — lieft in the hands of thn chairman ani Cr Stenhouse to arrange. , John Brown. Peter Ireland, and James Gilmore, Goodwood Riding, wrote requesting the council to take steps to keep open the road through Brooklands Estate leading to section 88, etc. block I, Hawksbury.— Le.ft in ?ie hands of- the chairman and Cr Stenhouse. Accounts amounting to £161 14s 3d were pased for payment. DOMAIN BOARD. A meeting of the Domain Board was then held. — The Under-secretary for Lands wrote in reference to Mts Gow/s offer of section 56, block X, comprising 10 acres, as a public domain, and stating that a subsidy of £25 towards the purchase would be entered .on ths Estimates for consideration. — Received, -the chairman being authorised to sign 1 the cheque and complete the purchase of 1 the cection. Accounts amounting to £21 I4s 9d wer« passed for payment, and the board thereafteS adjourned.

The train was left absolutely unattended during the half-hour in question. The Railway Commissioner admits a com-« plaint has reached the department, and art inquiry is being held.
