THE WINTER SHOW.
THE SCHEDULE ISSUED
"We have received from the secretary of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society the schedule of prizes for the coming wrnter show, which is to open in Dunedin on Wednesday, June 6. The prize list is very complete, and the schedule neatly got up. Several large prizes are given this year as an encouragement to exhibitors at the winter carnival. For the county bays Messrs Duth c Bros. 1 trophy, valued at 35gs, is still to be competed for, and, in addition to this, tne society offers a first prize of 15gs, a second of lOgs, a third of sgs, and a fourth of sgs, as well as the sum of £20 donated to each county competing, towards defraying the cost of erecting the stands. With these handsome additional prizes the committee feels confident that keen competition will result. A handsome trophy of J2sgs, in the form of a cup, has been presented by the Union S.S. These prizes are awarded to the cheese and butter makers whose factory output for the season gains the highest average number of points according to the certificate issued by the Government graders. From the large number of entries received by the secretary, very considerable interest will be taken by all visitors to the show, these exhibits being most instructive and of educational value. With a, view also to encouraging one of the largest exports of the colony— namely, wool, the committee have added a large number of classes for three fleeces of merino, halfbred, three-quarterbred, and crossbred woo!, to be judged on a scale of points, and for these classes, in addition to the prizes given by the society, several valuable special prizes are donated by Messrs Munay, Roberts and Co., Dalgety and Co., Stronach, Morris and Co., and Donald Reid and Co.
