MARKETS. (Fbost Oub Om Coerespondent.)

OAMARU, November 5,

'There is a strong inquiry for prime wheat here, and the market is very firm. Millers, particularly in the north, appear to be on the lookout for prime samples for mixing purposes, and in sonic instances are still prepared To give good valxie. Sales, however, are not very numerous, holders being .of opinion that the market will continue firm and probably advance. The area of wheat sewn, here during the winter and just before the broken weather of September was large, but the area Tinder spring wheat must be very small. A line- of 1400 sacks of fair milling was sold at 3s net at a South Canterbury siding, and another at 3s OJd on the same terms. Red chaff is worth 3s to 3s Id, less commission, at sidings. Fowlwheat is in request at 2s lid to 3s, f.0.b., but the supply is short.

Stocks of oats in this district are now reduced to about the local requirements for the rest of the season, and the market is firm.
