A MERSTON and WAIKOUAITI DlS•4iS< 'itTI/L BARGN GRACEFUL BARON GRACEFUL (11,259, C.5.8., imp.) is a very handsome bay colt, foaled May, 1900; stands well on good feet and legs, with lots of quality, and nice action. He was bred by Messrs A. and W. Montgomery, Netherhall, and Banks, Kirkcudbright, Scotland; imported to Australia in a9o3by Mr J. E.. Walter, of Glen Luss Stud, Werribee; thence to New Zealand by the present pwner. His sire; Baron's Pride '(9122, C.5.8.), is celebrated as the best breeding horse of the present day throughout Scotland. He was awarded numerous local prizes as a youngster, and in 1894/ when four years old, was first and champion male Clydesdale- exhibited at the .Highland and- Agricultural Society's show, BA.RO.N, GRACEFUL' S dam, Graceful (13,977), by Macgregor "(1487). Macgregor gained first prize at Dairy, second at Kiimarnock, and first at Dalbeattie in 1879 when a yearling. BASON GRACEFUL won third prize at the Royal Society's show, Carlisle, in July, -1902, in a strong class. He also won first prize at Kirkcudbright. His full sister won last year first and champion prizes at Castle 'Douglas and Kilmarnock, and first prize at Ayr .for best yearling filly. t •Blacon Jewel is a full sister to Baron Graceful, and has won numerous prizes ; and was sold- at the Blacon Point sale for 150gs. The North British Agriculturist says: "This filly was rather ' missed ' by the company. She is a beautiful animal, and in comparison with the others was sold much under her value at 150g5." The average realised ior 12 females sired by Baron's Pride "was £223 4s 3d. The total proceeds of the sale for 30 head of stock amounted to £4568 Bs, or an average of £152 3s 7d. This only shows that Baron's Pride is just as great a horse in the sale ring as ths .show yard, and the former is the true. test. Blacon Jewel (renamed Lady Alexander^ was first at the Highland Society'is show at Glasgow and first at Edinburgh. ■ JBaron Graceful'^ -first crop of foals in New Zealand show great promise, and compare with any in the land — the fact is, it is .impossible for Abbot or Baron Graceful not to breed a lot of good colts and fillies.
