WELLINGTON NOTES.

By OHxooxsa.

October 7.

The North Island contingent at Blenheim won most of the events on the programme, the local horses being a very poor lot. The principal .events went to Ngatarua, who has so fax wop. a race .it every meeting lie has competed at this season, and Royal Blues The lartter won the big event each day at the last meeting held at Riverlands, when Ngalarua was also successful. O. Pritchard sent ever two .horses from the Hutt — Black Squall and Kaiului, — and both were successful on the first day. R. M'Gregor, who is connected with F. Tilley's Fordell stable, went across and rode Black Squall. Tb J s*led to a "heated discussion" between that horseman and T. Pritchard, "who went across m chaxge of Kaiuku. The latter had a. bad lot to beat in the Maiden, but could only run second hi the Welter to the Wairaxapa-own«d First View (Tasman — New Year). H. M'Manaway had a good time with Ms pair. Sir Percivala and Fancywork, aluboTigb the latter wt-.s beaten in one event anu -d'ead-lieated in another with the Hut I- trained Error, who' is generally regarded as moderate, and was m receipt of a liberal allowance in weight from Farcywork. Mr Jorgcnsou took four horsss across from th© Hutf), but did not succeed in winning a single race. St. Louis v,as aisposed of, and ran in his new owner's mteresj on the second day. The Voucher and the two-year-old filly Strathfillaii (Stra.thbraan — Falka) were only seen out on the first day, when they were making their first appearance. Coxswain ian better on th,e second da-Vj wliea

ho lscporated Royal Blue and Ngatarua, than on the. first.

Tha first arrival at the Hutt for the forthcoming meeting is Grand Poplar, who comes from the West Coast of the South Island.

After analysing the weights, your coriespondent is of opinion that Black Reynold, Signabcan, and Gold Crown look beet m tiio Wellington Handicap. Ba.tic and Wind seem to have good chances in the Hack Hurdles ; King Bilty aud Sir Tristram look well in the Plying; Boris and Glenowlet in the Shorts, I'ctticoat and Gawain in the five-furlong Hack Race, and! Maui, Marseillaise, and Aorangi the bix- furlong Hack Race. Some of ihe horses engaged at the Hutt may sliow winning form at Otaki. Frank Hiegott takes up Togos, Hydrant. Shrapnel Shell, and Petticoat. The last-named is engaaed in a Trial -Race on the aecond day, and weight should not stop her. H. Carmont is going short to ride Shrapnel Shell 6.1. C. Pritchard takes up Kudu and Wind, both of which are engaged in ths Flying, and Pat (St. Hippo— Riporipo), who is engaged m tho Maiden. Mr Davis will probably also take no Alexieff for the last-named event. Swop ought to account for the lot opposed to him in the Maiden Hurdle Race. Nitrate (Torpedo— Melinite) has the minimum weight in the Hack Hurdle Race. In ad .sihe flat handicaps on tlie first day at the Hutfc Porirua-trained horses head the list.

Sardoujx is now trained by J. W. Lowe ai the Hutt. The Saracen gelding got influenza retarmng from the National meeting, but is getting all right again. Waimoe, who lias baen on the retired list for sonio time, will probably make his re appearance at the Hutt. Marseillaise is also coming down for the six-furlong Hock Raca. The acceptances do not close until Tuesday night, and your coirespoudent will send his selections to the daily papers.
