He was bred by Messrs A. and "W. Montgomery, Nether hall, and Banks, Kirkcudbright, Scotland; imported to Australia in 1903 by Mr J. E. Walter, of Glen Luss Stud, Werribse; "thence fo New Zealand by the present -owner. Hia sire, ' Baron's Pride (9122, C.5.8.), is celebrated as ' the best breeding norse of the present' day throughout Scotland. He was awarded numerous local prizes as a youngster, and in 1894; -when four years old, was iirst and champion .male Clydesdale exhibited at -the Highland and 1 Agricultural Society's show, " 'Aberdeen. BAROJtf G'RACEFUL'S dam, Graceful (13,977), -by Macgregor (1487). Macgregorgained first prize "at Dairy, second ,at Kit; inarnock, and first- at Dalbeattie in 1879 when a yearling. BARON GRACEFUL won third prize at the Royal Society's snow, Carlisle, in July, 1902, in. a strong class. He also -won first prize at Kirkcudbright. His full sister "won ' last year first and champion prizes at Castle Douglas and Kilmarnock, and first prize at Ayr for bast yearling filly. Blaeon Jewel is a full sister to Baxon Graceful, and has won numerous prizes; and was sold at the Blacon Point sale for 150gs. The North British Agriculturist says: "This filly was rather " missed ' by the company. She is a "beantiful animal, and in , comparison with the. others "was sold much under her value at 150g5." The average realised for 12 females sired by Baron's Pride 4 ■was £223 4s 3d. The total proceeds of the sale for 30 head of stock amounted to JS4SGS Ss, or an average of £152 3s Jd. This only shows that Baron's Pride is just as great a horse in the sale ring as the tshow yard, and the former is the true test. Blacon Jewel (renamed Lady Alexander l ) was first at the Highland Society's show at Glasgow and first at Edinburgh. Baron Graceful' s first crop of foals in New Zealand show great promise, and compare with any in the land — the fact is, it is impossible for Abbot or Baron Graceful net to breed a lot of good colts and fillies. Letters addressed to the groom in charge, Pa3merston, will be attended to. Terms : - Paddocks for mares from a distance will be arranged for. - Meres sold -or exchanged held to be in foal. > AH care, but no responsibility. FEES : 50s at end of season, 50s on mare proving in foal. Groomage, ss. J. R. MACKENZIE, 27s Owner, Poniahaka. >«5B« mO STAND AND _^mrtj£b TRAVEL AT The Thoroughbred ■^— -V— —-£4, ROSSMERE.
