The Executive of the National Council of
omen of New Zealand concluded it* session to-day. Mrs Wells proposed the following motions: — "(1) That in the opinion of this executive — (a) there should be an organised system of education from the kindergarten up to the specialised college ; lb) In connection with priblio schools there should be homes where a>U ohildi-en whose parents were ' either incapable or unfit should receive - motherly care. (2) The Education Boards and Sohcol Committees of the colony should- have larger powers of control, each to have its. duties specified by act of Parliament, and that these bodies should be elected by the direct vote- of the people. (3.) Women should not be out from the higher positions" in the State schools, and 'the present discrepancies in salaries of bofeh men and women assistant teaohers should be abolished. (4-) With a view to protect teachers from thei impossible amount oif work now expected of them by the department, and also to improve the 6tandard of education, teachers be encouraged to" specialise, and that ari-ange-ments should be made for itinerary specialists.. (5) rThe Government should deal with the Teachers' Superannuation and Teachers' Salaries Bills before, the end of the session." The motions- were carried unanimously. Miss M'Kay- moved — "That all disabilities be removed which at .present hinder women from sitting as members in either House' of the Legislature or from being elected or appointed to any public office or position in the colony which men may hold, and with regard to all powecs, rights, dirties, and privileges of citizens to declare absolute equality to be the law of the land for both men and women." The motion was carried without dissent.
