ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.
CHRISTCHURCH, September 20. There were small entries at the Addmgton live stock market to-day in all departments except pigs, end the attendance was below the average. Prices for fat stock were generally higher, beef showing a sharp rise. The fat sheep market was firmer, and there was good sale for fat pigs and an upward demand for stores.
Store Sheep. — There were only a few odd lots of store sheep offered, mostly of inferior sorts, which were not in much demand. Fortysix hoggets sold at 13s, 140 at 16s 9d, 167 aged ewes and lambs at lls 3d, 85 at 10s 9d, and others at 9s 7d.
Fat Lajnbs. — About 20 new season's fat lambs were penned, the best selling at from 21c to 365, and a few smaller at 14s.
Fat Sheep. — The yarding of fat sheep was a moderate one, consisting principally- cf wethers in small lots and one good line of merino wethers. The sale opened at improved rates, which eased somewhat later on. Though prices were irregular, they were slightly higher for good sheep. Prime wethers made from 24s to 275; extra, to 29>s"; others, 21s to 23s 6d ; prime ewes, 25s to 27s 6d ; medium, 19s to 225; prime merino wethers. 18s 9d to 21s.
Pat Cattle. — The entry totalled only 110, the bulk of which were useful steers. The short supply caused a sharp rise in prices, prime beef selling at from 25s to 27s 6d, and m some cases a little over; and medium quali+y, 21s to 23s per lOOib. Steers made from £8 15g to £13 15s; heifers, £5 7s 6d to £7; and cows, £4 5s to £9. The veal calves offered were mostly small sorts, and sold at from 7s 6d to 37s 6d.
Store and Dairy Cattle. — There v was a small mixed entry of store cattle, and a dull snlo took place. Fifteen and 18 months' old stock sold at 31s; two-year-old stores, 57s 6d; two-year-old heifers, 493; dry cows, 33s and 535. A small entry of dairy cows, mostly poor sorts, did not meet with much deniandyprices ranging from £4 to £8.
Pigs. — There was a large yarding of pigs, baconens selling at late rates, while porkers were firmer, and there was improved demand for stores consequent upon the operations of several Peninsula buyers. Heavy baconers brought from 40s to 47s 6d, and lighter from 32s to 38s — equal to 3id to 3^d per lb ; porkers, 26s to 35s — equal to 4d to 41d per lb; la.'go siores, 22s 6d to 30s ; medium" 15s to 225 ; ar k <i weaners, 6s to 12s 6d.
