OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIP.
Play in the Otago championship is> progressing steadily, and is marked by the usual surprises. The attendances at- the clvb 7 on. nights of play are large, especially on Saturday evenings, when Lhere are usually quite a number of visitors as onlookers.
Last week we mentioned that Hutton and Langston had not lost a game. Since then Hutton lost both his games to C. Hansen, who is playing splendidly. Langston also lost a game, in his tie with Dickson, Langston having tha black side in a. " Kelso."
Boreham drew his first game with Keenan, althought Keenar should have won a fine ending. Boreham won the second of the pair. Lucas has recovered from his severe cold! and is showing his usual form. He scored! 1$ from Dickson, level with Hanson, and 2 from H. Holden.
Boreham scored 2 each from H. Holden and G. Holden. The brothers Holden are both, good players, but want of practice and the two-move restriction is against Qiem, and they have not so far done themselves justice. Hansen scored 11 from Keenan, their seconrt game, a draw, Being a fine one. Hansen and) Langston played two draws, as did Hansen, Play in the tourney is continued on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.
