DRAUGHTS MATCH.
TE TUA v. OREPUKI. *We are indebted to the secretary of tha Orepuki club for the following report:
The first draughts match of the season betw.een the Te Tua and Orepuki Clubs was played on Saturday evening, June 24, in Temperance Hall, Orepuki. Through the keen and! friendly rivalry between these two young clubs last year, this match has been looked forward to with keen interest by both clubs, and a close finish was expected, both clubs being confident of victory. The match proved: extremely interesting, as the result depended! on the last two boards, where two young players in J. Cullen and J. Reid finally achieved victory for their club by winning two games to one, and two draws out of five games. When Mr Reichel announced tha result of the match, both teams were treated to pro-longed applause by the large numbea? of spectators, who seemed as much interested! in- the match as the players. On the conclusion of play the teams sat; down to a light suppei in Mr D'Arcy'a sample room, After ample justice hadl been done to the good things provided,
Mr Reichel (Orepuki skipper), in the course of his remarks, said that his club would ba very happy indeed to meet Te Tua in another match shortlj, and would have much plea-sura in seeing Orepuki win by a still larger majority He called on his team to give three cheers for the Te T\ia Club, which was heartily responded to.
Mr B. Richards (Te^Tua captain) iH response, said, althought his cTub were beaten ihey were not disgraced," and they hoped to meet tha Orepuki Club in the near future, when another keen match could be looked forward to. Ha called for three cheers for Oiepuki, which were given in a royal spirit.
