THE MOA FLAT ESTATE.
Moa Plat Estate las always "been noted as one of the best sheep-raising properties in the colony, and its reputation in this respect has been further enhanced lately. The 'Frisco mail to hand last week brought news of the sale of the first shipped portion of the clip, s.nd the prices obtained were the highest recorded for New Zealand fine crossbred wools (station clips) when the mail left on the 6th May. We quote a few of the lines, as follow : 49 bales greasy super and A combing halfbred, 14£ d; 18 do, 14d ; 14 do, 13Sd ; 37 bales greasy A combing crossbred (Romney cross), 14d; 24 bales greasy B combing halfbred, 12id ; 42 do, lljd. The first pieces brought lid to 12Jd, and the second pieces lujd. Another proof of the healthiness and excellence of the Moa Flat pastures is afforded by the fact that in March the company sold 2300 twotooth three-quarterbred Border Leicester and Romney Marsh wethers (tussock-bred sheep) at 203 per head. Mr F. A. Price, of Wikiwi, bought these sheep, and has since sold out Of them a draft of GOO of the lightest of them. They were sold for export and killed at the Jlataura Freezing Works, their net average freezing ' weight oeing 68.61b per sheep. The heavier weights Mr Price has been selling at the Burnside and Wallacetown markets to the butchers. At Burnside Yards last week Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold a large consignment for Mr Price, 'and the mutton, which is as prime as any that ever came into Dunedin, may be seen in the shops of Messrs Elliott Bros, and Co., of the City Butchery, and Mr W. W. Duke, of George street. Competent judges who have seen the mutton admit that even the far-famed Islington and Belfast brands of Canterbury do not excel this Moa Flat mutton either as regards " bloom," quality, or anything else. The weights of the sheep, too, axe quite phenomenal, the range being from 751b to 1101b per carcase. Country visitors during show week, especially our neighbours from the sister province of Canterbury, would find it interesting and instructive to compare this Otago mutton with their own, in view r>f the contention that Canterbury mutton has no rival. PKOPEHTY SALE. The National Mortgage and Agency Company (Limited), in conjunction -with Messrs I. W. Raymond and Co., offered on Saturday-'at Invercargill the freehold property of the late George Crosbie, situated near Edendale, but, unfortunately, there was only one bid of £10 per acre, and as this was very much below the price expected no business was done. ■ Messrs Alex. Harris and Cq. have to report having sold, on account of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, town block XLI, Town of Clyde, containing 3 acres 9 poles, with dwellings thereon, for £201, to W. Allan.
